Complex sexual-social environments produce high boldness and low aggression behavioral syndromes

چکیده
Introduction Evidence of animal personality and behavioral syndromes is widespread across animals, yet the development these traits remains poorly understood. Previous research has shown that exposure to predators, heterospecifics, urbanized environments can influence syndromes. Yet, date, early social experiences with conspecifics on adult far less known. We use swordtail fish ( Xiphophorus nigrensis ), a species three genetically-determined male mating strategies (courtship display, coercion, or mixed strategy) assess how different early-life shape development. Methods raised female swordtails from birth adulthood in density-controlled sexual-social treatments varied presence type tactics (coercers only, displayers coercers displayers, mixed-strategists only). At adulthood, we tested females’ boldness, shyness, aggression, sociality, activity. Results found number females were (social complexity) shaped more than any individual strategy. Females reared complex two bolder, shy, aggressive single tactic (either courtship only coercion Complex produced (correlations between aggression activity, shyness interaction activity), whereas simple did not. Discussion Importantly, characteristics socially-induced differ those driven by predation, but converge emerging animals urban environments. Our findings suggest complexity environment shapes facilitate information gathering. Furthermore, our highlights previously overlooked sexual selection as significant contributing factor diverse

Boldness, Aggression, and Shoaling Assays for Zebrafish Behavioral Syndromes.
A behavioral syndrome exists when specific behaviors interact under different contexts. Zebrafish have been test subjects in recent studies and it is important to standardize protocols to ensure proper analyses and interpretations. In our previous studies, we have measured boldness by monitoring a series of behaviors (time near surface, latency in transitions, number of transitions, and darts) ...

In recent years, evidence for interindividual variation in ‘‘personality’’ within animal populations has been accumulating. Personality is defined as consistency in an individual’s behavioral responses over time and/or across situations. One personality trait that has potentially far-reaching implications for behavioral ecology, and may provide insight into the mechanisms by which consistent be...
متن کاملSexual selection in complex environments.
Sexual selection has resulted in some of the most captivating features of insects, including flashy colors, bizarre structures, and complex pheromones. These features evolve in dynamic environments, where conditions can change rapidly over space and time. However, only recently has ecological complexity been embraced by theory and practice in sexual selection. We review replicated selection stu...
متن کاملThe effectiveness of sexual cognitive behavioral therapy in sexual stimulation and inhibition of men with low sexual performance
Introduction: Sexual stimulation and inhibition play an important role in men's sexual performance, so the present study was conducted with the aim of determining the effectiveness of sexual cognitive behavioral therapy in sexual stimulation and inhibition of men with low sexual performance. Methodology: The present study was a semi-experimental pre-test-post-test type with a control group and...

This work presents a market-based social model to produce good quality behavioral animations for groups of intelligent virtual agents. The social model coordinates the activities of groups of virtual characters and also includes social actions in the agent decision-making. We follow the Multi-Agent Resource Allocation approach presented in [2], where agents express their preferences using utili...
